March 13: 1st Transfer Complete!

The past 6 weeks have gone by pretty quick for me. I can't imagine how quick time is going to fly by later on in my mission!

I had another great week here in Woodstock. Elder Coffey and I were both healthy all week which I am very grateful for. For me the only big trials I have had on my mission so far are illness related so I suppose God's letting me get sick because he doesn't want things to be too easy for me haha. We went on exchanges this week with the Spanish Elders in our zone and the Zone leaders, I hosted in Woodstock both times so it wasn't too different. On Thursday we drove to the Toronto temple in Brampton for the follow-up training temple trip. All of the Elders and Sister's who came out at the same time as me were there with their trainers. President Shields and his wife and the AP's gave instructions and then we had lunch and then went to a temple session together! It was great to see the sisters from my MTC district and it was so awesome to see my MTC companion again: Elder Kaku! Right when we saw each other we ran up and shared a big hug. I really hope I get to serve with him or at least around him one day, I really missed him over those 5 1/2 weeks. The relationships I have gained already with some of the Elders and Sisters will definitely be long lasting, I'm looking forward to gaining more of those relationships!

On Sunday night we awaited the call from President or the AP's to see where Elder Coffey and I would spend the next 6 weeks. For those who don't know, on transfers night you either receive a call and they tell you where you are being moved, or you don't receive a call, which means you and your companion stay put.

Drum roll please...

the phone did not ring! That means that we're staying in Woodstock and Elder Coffey gets to finish off my 12 weeks of training. We're excited to continue working with the momentum that has been building in Woodstock. I'm excited I get to keep working with Cynthia and Hubert. If things continue to go well, both of them should get baptized within the next 6 weeks! The possibility of adding 2 baptisms to my mission total is not the reason I am excited to stay though; I'm excited because I get to work with Hubert and Cynthia all the way to the end (baptism) and help them get on the right path of discipleship. I'm confident that Elder Coffey and I are going to find a couple new solid investigators in the coming weeks so we are going to work hard for that. Many ward members especially our Bishop were really excited to hear that we were both staying. Elder Coffey had a great relationship with the ward already and now I think the ward really likes me too so things are looking really good here. THINGS ARE GOING TO HAPPEN the next 6 weeks, I'm excited! I know that this is exactly where the Lord wants Elder Coffey and I to be and I'm looking forward to seeing some more miracles!

One thing I have learned about this week is miracles. My definition of a miracle would be this: A work of God accomplished through his angels and the Holy Ghost according to the faith of man which in most cases can't be scientifically identified or measured. Therefore, conversion is a miracle. Faith, repentance, baptism, the gift of the Holy Ghost, and becoming Christlike are all miracles. I'm so grateful for the miracles that God has blessed me with throughout my life. I invite you to think about something you haven't thought of as a blessing/miracle before and be grateful for it!

Have a wonderful week everybody!

Elder Johnson

May 23: Loads of Service this Week and Golfing!

Hello! Yesterday was not our p-day because of Victoria Day. We missionaries do the opposite of everybody else: the Sabbath is definitely not a day of rest and holidays are go days!  My week started off pretty sweet. For p-day Elder Kohl and I went to the golfing range and also played on the chipping and putting green. We shared a $14 bucket of balls and played for close to 3 hours so it was absolutely worth it! I'm still good at golf :) We also helped out the members a lot this week. We have mowed and done weed whacking for a couple senior members, helped a sister pack stuff before she moves, cleaned out gutters, painted a bedroom, and de-cluttered a back yard. What would the ward do with out us?! Some might think that's too much service, I think I would rather be doing that than tracting haha.  We've been primarily working with the members to find people to teach. This way of finding basically looks like the following:...

January 22, 2018 - The Iron Rod is a sure Foundation

Hi, We found a really nice lady this week through tracting. She really liked the Restoration message and we answered her many questions. She's married and in her 30's. She is just a really cool person so I'm excited to keep meeting with her. Elder Martin and I have been pushing ourselves to talk to more people recently. We set a weekly goal to give out a certain number of Book of Mormon's. Having the goal in mind has motivated me to get out and talk to people when I don't feel like it--it's a feeling I get a lot unfortunately. I've noticed there is always opposition before and after we do something important for Christ.  Getting up Sunday morning and going to church has never been difficult for me; however, living what I learned at church is a little more difficult. I've learned that the adversary is relentless at "following-up" with me shortly after I have a spiritual experience. Satan will do anything in his power to make me lose t...

January 29, 2018 - No Longer Stuck in a Rut

Hello, We transitioned from flip phones to smart phones this week. Unfortunately for me, my phone has not been delivered yet so I have to wait a little longer. And unfortunately for Elder Martin, the software on his phone is glitchy and he can't get into it so he has to get the software re-installed by a Samsung specialist. Unfortunately for us, we are the only companionship in the mission without a working smart phone right now. Hopefully the specialist gets it fixed today so we can get on with things. We've just been using our old flip phone and it works fine for now. In my email last week I talked about a lady we found by knocking on her door.  Her name is Michelle, we had our first sit down lesson with her yesterday and it went very well. She has a catholic background but didn't stick with the religion (big surprise there, no offense to the Catholic church). She accepted the message of the restoration (she understood the apostasy and the need for priesthood auth...
