July 11: Fireworks and a knock knock miracle

Hello everyone!

Last p-day was pretty eventful. In my weekly report I talked about how difficult tracting is and how little success I've seen from doing it. Well...just a couple of hours after writing that email we went tracting and found 2 potential investigators. I'd like to explain a little bit how it happened.

We were driving and Elder Fabiano went to a street that felt good and pulled off to the side. We sat there for a few minutes to do some paper work, planning, and phone calls. It was a very warm evening and the sun was right in our faces, just beaming into the car. The AC in our car is really poor for some reason so it became uncomfortably hot real quick. The whole time I was thinking to myself why my companion doesn't drive down the street to a shady spot so we don't die in the car. Although I really wanted to say let's go to another spot, I never said anything. After about 20 minutes we finished what we had to do and got out of the boiling hot car to being knocking on doors. The first person we saw was a lady watering her plants just across the street from our car. She was very nice, we talked about the restoration and gave her a Book of Mormon and she became a potential investigator. Just down the street from her we found a man in his 30's doing landscaping. Turns out he's bumped into missionaries quite a few times recently and is looking to find the truth. We talked with him over an hour and got his info and gave him the Book. By the time we finished talking to him it was 9 so we headed back to the car. As we were walking back I told my companion. "It's interesting how the whole time we were in the car I was really hot and wanted to go somewhere else, but for some reason I didn't say anything about it." He responded, "He said ya I was feeling hot too but I had a feeling we needed to stay where we were."

This experience is an example of the many types of miracles you see on a mission. Things happen here and there that teach you patience, faith, diligence, long suffering, kindness, hope, and charity. The spirit was telling me to be patient and stay silent so I didn't persuade my companion to move the car and the spirit was telling my companion to just stay put. I also find it interesting how this successful tracting experience happened just after I bashed about tracting in my email. I guess the Lord works in mysterious ways.

After that p-day miracle we enjoyed the July 4th fireworks on the American side, and yes, they were better than the Canadian fireworks (why? because they spent more money on it).  I also went on exchanges Wednesday and Thursdaywhich was fun. I stayed in the Soo with the other Elder. Today, we are going to play disc golf with a couple of guys in the ward so that should be a fun p-day activity (it's called disc golf not frisbee golf because we use discs which are bit heavier than frisbees).

Have a sweet week!

2. A member in the branch showed us one of his bee hives. I got stung I think 7 times. Just kidding, that doesn't happen unless you really bother the bees.

January 22, 2018 - The Iron Rod is a sure Foundation

Hi, We found a really nice lady this week through tracting. She really liked the Restoration message and we answered her many questions. She's married and in her 30's. She is just a really cool person so I'm excited to keep meeting with her. Elder Martin and I have been pushing ourselves to talk to more people recently. We set a weekly goal to give out a certain number of Book of Mormon's. Having the goal in mind has motivated me to get out and talk to people when I don't feel like it--it's a feeling I get a lot unfortunately. I've noticed there is always opposition before and after we do something important for Christ.  Getting up Sunday morning and going to church has never been difficult for me; however, living what I learned at church is a little more difficult. I've learned that the adversary is relentless at "following-up" with me shortly after I have a spiritual experience. Satan will do anything in his power to make me lose t...

May 23: Loads of Service this Week and Golfing!

Hello! Yesterday was not our p-day because of Victoria Day. We missionaries do the opposite of everybody else: the Sabbath is definitely not a day of rest and holidays are go days!  My week started off pretty sweet. For p-day Elder Kohl and I went to the golfing range and also played on the chipping and putting green. We shared a $14 bucket of balls and played for close to 3 hours so it was absolutely worth it! I'm still good at golf :) We also helped out the members a lot this week. We have mowed and done weed whacking for a couple senior members, helped a sister pack stuff before she moves, cleaned out gutters, painted a bedroom, and de-cluttered a back yard. What would the ward do with out us?! Some might think that's too much service, I think I would rather be doing that than tracting haha.  We've been primarily working with the members to find people to teach. This way of finding basically looks like the following:...

January 29, 2018 - No Longer Stuck in a Rut

Hello, We transitioned from flip phones to smart phones this week. Unfortunately for me, my phone has not been delivered yet so I have to wait a little longer. And unfortunately for Elder Martin, the software on his phone is glitchy and he can't get into it so he has to get the software re-installed by a Samsung specialist. Unfortunately for us, we are the only companionship in the mission without a working smart phone right now. Hopefully the specialist gets it fixed today so we can get on with things. We've just been using our old flip phone and it works fine for now. In my email last week I talked about a lady we found by knocking on her door.  Her name is Michelle, we had our first sit down lesson with her yesterday and it went very well. She has a catholic background but didn't stick with the religion (big surprise there, no offense to the Catholic church). She accepted the message of the restoration (she understood the apostasy and the need for priesthood auth...
