August 8 - What would we do without Google?

Happy Tuesday!

It was a Canadian civic holiday yesterday so that's why our p-day is today.

I know God is real, and because he is, Satan is real also. He is working tireless to stop people from receiving the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

There's a term missionaries use for someone who investigates for a time and then is turned away from the church because of what they read online or hear from others: we say they were "anti'd". Well, 2 of our potential investigators were "anti'd" this week from online research...on the same day actually. One of which was the well-studied christian guy who let us in at the door last week. We sat down with him on Wednesday. He said he read the chapters from the Book of Mormon we assigned and he also did his own research online about the church...

When you have a question about something, you have 3 sources to turn to: the world, friends/family, and God. These days, when you have a question, the quickest way to get an answer is by asking google. In today's world, we want everything now...we want answers now! This becomes a problem  when it comes to questions about God. Far too often, we put our trust in google (man) before we put our trust in God. We go to google, because we will get a quick answer, we take that answer to be true because we think it's from "the source of all knowledge". Google is not omniscient, it doesn't even contain all of mans' knowledge. You can find ample amount of truth on the internet if you know where to look, but the internet does not, and will never contain all truth. Why? Because it is of man, not of God. The clearest definition of truth is this: truth is the way things really are. Who knows the way things really are at all times, past, present, and future? God of course. Wait a minute, so the source of all truth is something that may or may not be there in the first place? By the worlds standards you can't prove that God is even there. The prophet Moroni taught truth, "By the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things" (Moroni 10:5).

I know God is real. If you read 2

Oops accidentally sent the email haha, I clicked tab or something. Anyways, the point I was trying to make about people being "anti'd" is they ask man a question that can only be answered by God, through the power of the Holy Ghost. Questions like, is the Book of Mormon true? Is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints true? Google can not give you the answer. The man who let us into his home said he asked God if the Book of Mormon was true, BUT he asked after he did a bunch of research online. He put his trust in man before God, his heart wasn't open, and he could not ask with real intent. God did not answer him, and so he thinks this church is a bunch of not so good stuff which I don't need to mention.

I'm out of time to write, I just want to say I know this church it true! God lives and I know it. And there is nothing anybody can do to take that truth away from me, because it is the way things really are!

Enjoy your last weeks of summer!
Elder Johnson

Picture is with an awesome member named Bud. He joined the church 3 years ago. His wife has been an active member for many years. After 57 years of marriage they were sealed in the temple! It took him a long time to join the church but hey, it's never too late! It's a great story. Side note: I'm convinced he is Santa Claus, his look and his jolliness and everything. Good news folks, Santa Claus is a Mormon! Expect more Book of Mormon's in your stockings!

May 23: Loads of Service this Week and Golfing!

Hello! Yesterday was not our p-day because of Victoria Day. We missionaries do the opposite of everybody else: the Sabbath is definitely not a day of rest and holidays are go days!  My week started off pretty sweet. For p-day Elder Kohl and I went to the golfing range and also played on the chipping and putting green. We shared a $14 bucket of balls and played for close to 3 hours so it was absolutely worth it! I'm still good at golf :) We also helped out the members a lot this week. We have mowed and done weed whacking for a couple senior members, helped a sister pack stuff before she moves, cleaned out gutters, painted a bedroom, and de-cluttered a back yard. What would the ward do with out us?! Some might think that's too much service, I think I would rather be doing that than tracting haha.  We've been primarily working with the members to find people to teach. This way of finding basically looks like the following:...

January 22, 2018 - The Iron Rod is a sure Foundation

Hi, We found a really nice lady this week through tracting. She really liked the Restoration message and we answered her many questions. She's married and in her 30's. She is just a really cool person so I'm excited to keep meeting with her. Elder Martin and I have been pushing ourselves to talk to more people recently. We set a weekly goal to give out a certain number of Book of Mormon's. Having the goal in mind has motivated me to get out and talk to people when I don't feel like it--it's a feeling I get a lot unfortunately. I've noticed there is always opposition before and after we do something important for Christ.  Getting up Sunday morning and going to church has never been difficult for me; however, living what I learned at church is a little more difficult. I've learned that the adversary is relentless at "following-up" with me shortly after I have a spiritual experience. Satan will do anything in his power to make me lose t...

January 29, 2018 - No Longer Stuck in a Rut

Hello, We transitioned from flip phones to smart phones this week. Unfortunately for me, my phone has not been delivered yet so I have to wait a little longer. And unfortunately for Elder Martin, the software on his phone is glitchy and he can't get into it so he has to get the software re-installed by a Samsung specialist. Unfortunately for us, we are the only companionship in the mission without a working smart phone right now. Hopefully the specialist gets it fixed today so we can get on with things. We've just been using our old flip phone and it works fine for now. In my email last week I talked about a lady we found by knocking on her door.  Her name is Michelle, we had our first sit down lesson with her yesterday and it went very well. She has a catholic background but didn't stick with the religion (big surprise there, no offense to the Catholic church). She accepted the message of the restoration (she understood the apostasy and the need for priesthood auth...
