February 20, 2018 - Toronto is Nuts!

Hello!

Sorry this P-day was pretty crazy and unorganized so I have very little time to write. Next week will be better. I'll try to hit the important stuff.

-My companion is Elder Tetauru he is from Tahiti. He is very chill, we're getting along great.

-So I am using the Toronto Transit system called the TTC which includes buses and the subway. No Car!

-I'm in a place called North York in a ward called Don Valley, it's 30 mins North of Down town Toronto. I've heard there is around 200 active members and they are mostly from the Philipines.

- We had Stake conference this week so I haven't met many members yet. I've met the Bishop and Ward mission Leader and a couple of others. Our Bishop is the CEO of Capital One no biggy and his family was almost the only caucasian family I saw at Stake Conference.

- The vast majority of people in this area are Oriental and wealthy. Every 5th car you see is either a 2017 Mercedes, BMW, AUDI, Porche, or Range Rover. Not everybody is rich of course, tons of people take public transportation.

-Riding in the buses and Subway is a crazy experience! Sometimes it feels very awkward to interupt people when they're glued to their phone and have their head phones in. It was not until I became a missionary that I realized how much people are looking down at their phone. Kind of sad, but that's the way it is I guess.

- We met with a family of 6 on Saturday. I'll tell an abbreviated version of their incredible story. The husband went inactive in his teens over 20 years ago and has been married to his Non-member wife for 19 years. Over the past couple of months there have been miracles and answers to prayers. Things happened which caused them to pick up the Book of Mormon. For the first time, the husband has gained a solid testimony, his wife has gained a testimony and their 13 and 11 year old son and daughter are awesome. We set a date for their baptisms on March 17 and they are set on getting sealed as a family. Everything we teach them before the baptism will pretty much be review because the husband has taught his family everything. The wife said the baptism and family sealing are events she has been waiting for for many years. The spirit was so strong in that room as they told me their story. I am so happy for them. They expressed that their love for eachother and their kids has grown so much in the past few weeks.

-There is also a couple of other part-member families with potential for baptisms we're are going to work with.

- There is so much happening all the time it seems impossible to meet with everyone in a week. Adjusting to white washing has been pretty difficult but not too bad because the ward is a really great support.

- overall in the first year of my mission it was hard to get the work going. But here, I'm just trying to keep up!

That's all I have time for! Have a wonderful week!

January 22, 2018 - The Iron Rod is a sure Foundation

Hi, We found a really nice lady this week through tracting. She really liked the Restoration message and we answered her many questions. She's married and in her 30's. She is just a really cool person so I'm excited to keep meeting with her. Elder Martin and I have been pushing ourselves to talk to more people recently. We set a weekly goal to give out a certain number of Book of Mormon's. Having the goal in mind has motivated me to get out and talk to people when I don't feel like it--it's a feeling I get a lot unfortunately. I've noticed there is always opposition before and after we do something important for Christ.  Getting up Sunday morning and going to church has never been difficult for me; however, living what I learned at church is a little more difficult. I've learned that the adversary is relentless at "following-up" with me shortly after I have a spiritual experience. Satan will do anything in his power to make me lose t...

May 23: Loads of Service this Week and Golfing!

Hello! Yesterday was not our p-day because of Victoria Day. We missionaries do the opposite of everybody else: the Sabbath is definitely not a day of rest and holidays are go days!  My week started off pretty sweet. For p-day Elder Kohl and I went to the golfing range and also played on the chipping and putting green. We shared a $14 bucket of balls and played for close to 3 hours so it was absolutely worth it! I'm still good at golf :) We also helped out the members a lot this week. We have mowed and done weed whacking for a couple senior members, helped a sister pack stuff before she moves, cleaned out gutters, painted a bedroom, and de-cluttered a back yard. What would the ward do with out us?! Some might think that's too much service, I think I would rather be doing that than tracting haha.  We've been primarily working with the members to find people to teach. This way of finding basically looks like the following:...

January 29, 2018 - No Longer Stuck in a Rut

Hello, We transitioned from flip phones to smart phones this week. Unfortunately for me, my phone has not been delivered yet so I have to wait a little longer. And unfortunately for Elder Martin, the software on his phone is glitchy and he can't get into it so he has to get the software re-installed by a Samsung specialist. Unfortunately for us, we are the only companionship in the mission without a working smart phone right now. Hopefully the specialist gets it fixed today so we can get on with things. We've just been using our old flip phone and it works fine for now. In my email last week I talked about a lady we found by knocking on her door.  Her name is Michelle, we had our first sit down lesson with her yesterday and it went very well. She has a catholic background but didn't stick with the religion (big surprise there, no offense to the Catholic church). She accepted the message of the restoration (she understood the apostasy and the need for priesthood auth...
